Being a kid is fun, but can also lead to more dental emergencies, leaving you searching for an emergency dentist for kids.

There’s so much fun to be had when you’re a child – the world to explore, things to climb, bikes to ride and new foods to try. But with the excitement comes the potential for more accidents. From falling off a bike and knocking out a tooth, to breaking a tooth while chewing something inanimate, there are plenty of opportunities in childhood for dental emergencies.

The course of action you’ll take depends on the dental emergency that has taken place. Here, we’ll explore what to do when you need an emergency dentist for kids and how to find the perfect dentist for nervous children.

What to do if your child knocks a baby tooth out

If your child has knocked out a baby tooth, do not try and put it back in. Hang on to the tooth, stem any bleeding by applying pressure with a clean cloth or gauze to the area. Head straight to an emergency dentist for kids and explain what has happened. The dentist will be able to examine your child and ensure no damage has been done to any teeth underneath or to the surrounding structures.

What to do if your child knocks a big tooth out

The protocol for the falling out of an adult tooth is slightly different. If this happens to your child, there are some steps to follow:

⦁ Hold the tooth by the white bit that sticks out of the gum, also known as the crown
⦁ Quickly rinse it under cold water for no more than 10 seconds
⦁ Try to put it back into the hole in the gum. If it doesn’t go in easily:
⦁ Put it in milk or your child’s saliva and get to an emergency dentist for kids as soon as possible.

Cracked, broken or chipped teeth

If your child experiences a tooth fracture, either on a baby or adult tooth, the first thing to do is to call an emergency children’s dentist. While you’re waiting to see the dentist, you can rinse the child’s mouth with warm water to keep the area clean and salvage any pieces of the child’s tooth that you can find as it may be able to be reattached. Place any tooth fragments in milk or saliva to keep them moist, and if necessary, apply pressure to any areas that are bleeding.

What to do if your child is nervous of the dentist

Many children are anxious about visiting the dentist and even more so if they’ve injured themselves. The best thing you can do is to seek out help from a dentist for nervous children and who has experience of treating children’s dental emergencies. They will know how to handle the interaction with your child and rely on tried and trusted methods such as play therapy and more.
